Two large early 19th century Chinese bronze Foo Dog/temple lion incense burners, c1820. Both are beautifully cast and heavy (combined weight 2.8kg). With fine detail to the features, teeth, feet etc they are depicted in the traditional open mouth position with teeth showing and have lovely decorative flourishes. One has the void on its back to allow incense to be placed inside and for the smoke to escape while the other has the opening under its belly to enable incense to be positioned underneath it. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me if you would like to view them or have any questions. Size: 21cm tall x 18cm wide x 9cm deep and 13cm tall x 20cm wide x 8cm deep, combined weight 2.8kg. About me: I have been a passionate collector of antiques and collectables for over 30 years. My tastes are diverse and range from fine antique furniture, African, Indian and Asian ethnographic antiques and tribal art, to vintage slot machines – the more unusual and curious the better! I have travelled extensively throughout Africa, Asia, India, North America and much of my collection has been sourced in the Country of origin. After many years of collecting I decided to start to sell and have established’Curious Antiques’ which specialises in a range of fine and more unusual antiques. These include fine furniture, religious items, militaria, amusement machines and one of the Countries best collections of African, Chinese, Eastern and Indian tribal and ethnographic antiques. I value your custom and will do all I can to keep you happy and satisfied.
Antique large Chinese’water lillies’ soapstone vase and base 20th Century. Would look amazing in the right location! A lovely rare find. The base and vase separate for transport (both are carved soapstone). Overall maximum dimensions: 15cm diameter x 32cm high. Very good condition, no damage. The odd minor irregularity (burring) to the sharp edges, which have mostly been there from creation (to be expected with such a piece). Please remember that this is a fragile item, needing to be handled safely and with care, when evaluating our charges (which are often less than our true costs). Collection – Free by appointment.
Chinese Canton Famille Rose porcelain was export wares made for the western market. Grand and ornately decorated for Georgian and Victorian taste in the 18th and 19th century. It can always be seen in stately homes. As with many products, over time the quality diminished, and as a result the early pieces are the most desirable today to collectors. Canton Famille Rose works well also in a contemporary space. The contrast of the old fashioned shape looks good in a minimalist home, but the bright colours are in keeping with a modern feel. 18th century Canton Famille Rose is slightly different stylistically than 19th century pieces once you get your eye in. This piece has the colour palette and facial style of 18th century Canton Famille Rose. The last photo is another example of an 18th century piece. There is a small chip to the rim and a hairline near the bottom. Also, some possible historic work done on the rim that is invisible. It is inoffensive and it does not matter to collectors when it comes to really old pieces. This piece is heavily decorated with wonderful palace court scenes. It has sculpted dragons around the neck, a gilded rim and is coloured inside, denoting a higher quality piece. It is a large statement decorators piece. It stands 42cm tall. This is 18th century Canton Famille Rose, so it is Qianlong period porcelain. 18th century Canton Famille Rose pieces you find are often smaller pieces and plates. It is extremely rare to find large 18th century vases. A significant, significant piece in this area. Please research and calculate for your country.
