Decorated in Blue with a Phoenix flying above a Foo Dog and Small Applied Foo Dog Ornaments. Dating is late 19th century or early 20th century. Graceful baluster shape with a deep 8 1/8″ diameter cupped lip drawn from a 4″ diameter cylindrical neck rising from a 10 1/8″ diameter semi-ovoid body resting upon a shallow hollowed 8″ diameter bottom. Painting is rendered in hand in under-glaze dark blue. Large mythical Phoenix bird carrying the Ju-I symbol of authority. Foo dog has traditional characteristics drawn from the model of Chinese Art, a short thick body covered with a coat of hair, curly mane, large eyes, and a short trifid tail; additionally, styled with a spotted diamond netted coat, and cloven hooves. Measures: 22 1/2″ (57.15 cm) , 10 1/8″ (25.71 cm) diameter. Good condition, except for several shallow hairlines in the bottom.
