SUPERB LARGE CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE GINGER JAR AND LID. DECORATED WITH THE PRUNUS BLOSSOM AND CRACKED ICE PATTERN. THE BLUE BACKGROUND IS WASHED WITH COBALT AS IS NORMAL BUT IT ALSO HAS A PENTAGONAL CRACKED ICE PATTERN SUBTLY “PENCILED” OVER THE WASH BEFORE FIRING, A VERY NICE TOUCH. THE BASE IS MARKED WITH THE KANGXI DOUBLE RING MARK FOR THE LATE 18TH OR 19TH CENTURY. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CARVED WOOD STAND IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE SALE AS IT IS SLIGHTLY TOO SMALL FOR THE JAR. THIS ITEM HAS COME OUT OF A LATE RELATIVES HOME WHERE I REMEMBER IT (ON THE WOOD STAND) ON THE HALL TABLE FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER. MY GRANDMOTHER HID HER SWEETS IN IT! Marked on base with underglaze blue 6 character seal mark. No cracks or chips or hairline cracks. Odd form, not exact upright imperfect shape when forged, leans. Date is most likely 19th century. A beautiful large antique blue and white Chinese Jar marked with double blue concentric rings to the base possibly of the Qianlong, Kangxi period or thereabouts. Decorated with a prunus cracked ice ground with pictorial cartouches to each side with one side unusually depicting tigers and the other depicting dragons. The lid decorated with prunus. The vase Measures ; (27cm) 10.5/8″ inches high x approx (21.5cm) 8.1/2″ inches across at widest point.
