A rare large antique Chinese early 17th century Wanli wucai porcelain rouleau vase. This wonderful Wanli rouleau porcelain vase has a very unusual and possibly unique shape with a gently flaring body leading to wide shoulders, a thin neck and a wide rim. It has been decorated with many fabulous squirrels climbing through grapes and vines in wonderful wucai colors including beautiful cobalt blues. The vase measures approximately 15 1/2 inches high. The vase has had professional, museum-quality restoration which has brought the vase back to its original condition. From the inside the vase looks to have been broken into at least two pieces and then restored. There is a repaired drill hole to the base. Please check all pictures. Large (appx 14×10, 8 lb 6 oz) bronze champleve vase. As you know, the’champleve’ technique consists of casting or cutting the areas to be filled with melted glass (enamel) into the piece itself, as compared to cloisonne, where the enclosures for the enamel are attached to the surface of the underlying piece. Each technique has an appeal of its own. With heavy bronze pieces like this, the large areas of bronze decorated only with the cast design itself contrast nicely with the enameled designs of quite a different character. Rare Museum quality important large Chinese Cloisonne Enamel Fish Bowl, and it dates to the very last of the Qing dynasty (right before the Xinhai Revolution of 1912). This particular design is from the far eastern side of China which interestingly also shows influence of Japanese design in the large robin’s egg blue areas. This was a common design in Japanese cloisonne from the same period- late Meji. The black areas of cloisonne were carried over in cloisonne designs thru the Chinese Republic Period as well until WWII. What is really interesting is the artist incorporated 2 styles together. It is very unusual to see what is typically called “golden wire” cloisonne (called that because of the gilt contrast of the wire against the black) and the very fine floral elements. Those usually would not be found together. This piece most likely was made to be export for the Japanese market, that is why the design incorporated some Japanese style. This impressive bowl will make a collector very very happy! Not a easy to find pair from a important 50 years old private collection. Measurements: The bowl measures approx. 9-1/2 (24.2cm) Tall x approx. 12 (30.5cm) in Diameter. Provenance: From the private collection of a Palm Beach, Florida Estate. A de-accession from Museum Chinese c. 1760′s or earlier Huge Tall Vase. This has 4 large scenes on the vase with what looks to be signatures or marks on each. We are not Chinese Art Experts. The vase has superb hand painted work throughout and stands 17″ tall x 8 1/2″ at the rim. The vase is 100% Authentic period piece and it is far from perfect. The museum had spent a considerable amount of time repairing part of the collection. It has already been repaired to one level on it’s way to be perfect for any museum. We are told it’s done by a famous Chinese artist of the time. It does have repaired cracks and or chips. We do not have the time to send it away. All of the paint work is intact. No loss or paint missing. The bottom did have Qianlong mark and is authentic as it was repaired at the very bottom. PLEASE Look at the Blue and White vase also from the Rockefeller collection in my other Auctions. I only have TWO running this week. Please check out that vase also.
