A Large and Important Chinese Yuan Dynasty Celadon Porcelain Vase. Measures: height 11 1/2. Condition: Good, minor glaze loss and wear as expected with age. Here we have a large stunning Chinese antique porcelain lidded jar. Melon shaped jar with relief decoration of fruit & vines with butterflies on a pink ground. Inside the lid and on the base is a turquoise enamel and also bearing a Qianlong mark. Possibly Qianlong mark and period. 43 cm’s tall or close to 17 inches and quite heavy. There is a large crack that runs from halfway down one side to across the base , but does not continue up the other side of the jar and does not affect the structure and is still a solid piece. Rare Museum quality important large Chinese Cloisonne Enamel Fish Bowl, and it dates to the very last of the Qing dynasty (right before the Xinhai Revolution of 1912). This particular design is from the far eastern side of China which interestingly also shows influence of Japanese design in the large robin’s egg blue areas. This was a common design in Japanese cloisonne from the same period- late Meji. The black areas of cloisonne were carried over in cloisonne designs thru the Chinese Republic Period as well until WWII. What is really interesting is the artist incorporated 2 styles together. It is very unusual to see what is typically called “golden wire” cloisonne (called that because of the gilt contrast of the wire against the black) and the very fine floral elements. Those usually would not be found together. This piece most likely was made to be export for the Japanese market, that is why the design incorporated some Japanese style. This impressive bowl will make a collector very very happy! Not a easy to find pair from a important 50 years old private collection. Measurements: The bowl measures approx. 9-1/2 (24.2cm) Tall x approx. 12 (30.5cm) in Diameter. Provenance: From the private collection of a Palm Beach, Florida Estate. Antique Important Chinese Qing Guangxu Large Cloisonne Enamel Fish Bowl Planter. We found some samples of this work. With the same combination of that Arabesque/tight spirals gilded wire pattern with a turquoise shield this work can be seen on the better specimens of works prepared for the visit of Roosevelt’s Great White Fleet in 1908.
