A very large antique Chinese Cizhou jar decorated in a thick lustrous black glaze which pools towards the base, the squat wide body sitting on aa generous base, the short neck with oxidised brown rim. This thick glaze has a slight blue hue to it under light giving a luminous quality to the high sheen. Interesting form from a very good UK collection of blackware. Dating possibly Song Dynasty. Some surface marks and glaze thinning from manufacture. The piece is 23 cm high (approx 9). Superb Large Antique Chinese Jin / Yuan Splashed Brown Black Temmoku Cizhou Jar. Fine potted large buff stoneware jar or bottle with iron black glaze and splashed decoration. Splashed iron red / russet flower sprays. Date 12/13thC Jin to Yuan dynasty, of Cizhou type kiln site. Condition Report: Measures approx. 20.3 cm (8″) at widest and 22.5 cm (8 7/8″) high.
