Fine Antiques & Jewellery. Large Vintage Chinese Porcelain Vase. A large hand thrown and hand painted Chinese porcelain vase. Cylindrical form body with the potting marks clearly visible to the interior. You can also see the item was fired upside down with the spur marks clear to the interior base. It is a little small for a stick stand but would make a substantial vase. It is decorated in polychrome enamels and also has raised enamels and raised slip dots on the hawthorn flowers. There are blue and black parrot style birds and extensive floral work. Note also the hapless frogs which are about to get a terrible surprise by the stalking snake. Note the foot where artificial age had been painted to the foot rim, however it must had been done more thinly to one side than the other as it has worn/cleaned off over the years to one side with it remaining to just part of the foot. Such aging was (still is) of course common on Chinese porcelain although in this case it was unlikely to be intended to deceive but rather to make it look more authentic. Date wise it is probably late mid century – third quarter of the 20th century – and it is interesting to see that the aging added to such pieces is beginning to wear away. It combines various styles and loosely follows some of the Kangxi style artistically, and although is not particularly old it is very decorative and of course hand painted. Such pieces also allow you to create the period Chinese look without having to spend multiple 1000′s for an original. Very good order, minor inconsistencies from the hand thrown process, minor glaze flaws and some rubbing of the gilt. Height: 32.7 cm (12 7/8 inch). Width: 13.5 cm (5 1/4 inch). Weight: 2280 grams (before packing). Stock Code: 2091 MR20-3. If for any reason you are unhappy with your item please let us know as soon as possible, and we will do our best to put things right.
