A pair of antique Chinese finely modeled and polychrome-glazed ceramic statues representing foo dogs. Late Qing dynasty, before 1912. One figure represents a male lion with a temari ball and the other is a female lion depicted with her paw protecting her cub. Both are raised on cubic pedestals decorated with carved and polychrome glazed flowers. Foo dog is a Chinese imperial guardian lion, a traditional motif in architecture and applied arts.
