We believe it to be mid-century so no great age to it but the true value hear is in the hand made workmanship which if you know anything about the process is very laborious, and unique! Cloisonne is a art form, each piece is worked for weeks by a craftsman polishing and adding enamel to the structure of the body, and I would not be surprised if it’s been hand worked for at least 160+ Hours. Standing on a wooden laquered bases, will look great in a glass display cabinet. The Process Cloisonne is elaborate and complicated process, including a dozen or so procedures. The main steps are designing, base hammering, filigree soldering, enamel filling, enamel firing, polishing and gildingetc. Among these steps, filigree soldering and enamel filling are two critical procedures that define the uniqueness of cloisonne ware. The step of filigree soldering is a procedure in which the craftsman uses nippers to form pressed thin copper wires into various exquisite patterns and adheres the copper strips onto the copper body through high-temperature heating. Enamel filling is a procedure in which the craftsman applies all kinds of enamel powder materials on the little compartments separated by filigrees before melting the materials with 800 centigrade degreed heat into a smooth surface. Several times of enamel heating are needed to make the copper strips even with the enamel surface. Thus, the vessel is covered with an elegant and brightly colored coat.
