A Large and Rare Chinese Ming Underglazed blue and Underglazed Red Mei-ping with panels of Suzaku (Ancient Phoenix which represent the South), Mandarin ducks and Foliage Scrolls. The Vase mainly decorated by 100% Hand-painted underglazed blue motifs with little area of underglazed red, which is very rare and usually appeared in early Ming, It has a high and coarse unglazed foot rim (Photo 7 and 12), and a flared scallop narrow mouth on top decorated with flora tufts in underglazed blue and red (Photo 10 and 11). Three main panels seen among polygonal underglazed blue frame, with drawing of’Suzaku’ (Photo 1),’Two swimming mandarin ducks among foliage on water’ (Photo 3) and’Lotus flower with scroll of leaves’ (Photo 5) respectively, in between groups of scrolls fillings (Photo 2, 4 and 6). Above the panels is a band of red and blue blossoms with leaves scrolls linking them together (Photo 9), with another smaller scroll circling under the flared rim (Photo 10). A band of horizontal underglazed scrolls motif and an inverted’U’ shaped with 3 descending scrolls were seen, reflecting the common decoration pattern of a Ming vase. Dimension: Height x Diameter = 14.7″ x 8.6″ (37.5 cm x 22 cm). In excellent display conditions, with no cracks, no chips and no damage.
