Fine large Qing period Chinese Cloisonne bronze vase. This monster measures just a bit under 18″ high and 13″ wide at widest. Most likely dates to the late 1800′s. It is decorated with seven winged horses around the entire circumference. Classic large vase form and weighs over 17 pounds. There is much overall pitting. There is also heavier “little valleys” of loss around the horses (see photos). There is a dark brown staining over most of the surface but this big vase presents very well and looks great. This is a big, heavy art work. Questions always welcome and thanks for looking. Decorated in Blue with a Phoenix flying above a Foo Dog and Small Applied Foo Dog Ornaments. Dating is late 19th century or early 20th century. Graceful baluster shape with a deep 8 1/8″ diameter cupped lip drawn from a 4″ diameter cylindrical neck rising from a 10 1/8″ diameter semi-ovoid body resting upon a shallow hollowed 8″ diameter bottom. Painting is rendered in hand in under-glaze dark blue. Large mythical Phoenix bird carrying the Ju-I symbol of authority. Foo dog has traditional characteristics drawn from the model of Chinese Art, a short thick body covered with a coat of hair, curly mane, large eyes, and a short trifid tail; additionally, styled with a spotted diamond netted coat, and cloven hooves. Measures: 22 1/2″ (57.15 cm) , 10 1/8″ (25.71 cm) diameter. Good condition, except for several shallow hairlines in the bottom.
