This VERY LARGE Antique CHINESE 19. CENTURY PORCELAIN Frog/Toad Jardinière is bright lime green in colour, with black & lilac eyes, and a beaded textured surface. We have calculated that there are of the order of 5000 TINY SPHERICAL BEADS of porcelain that have been individually attached to the surface to make this beaded texture on the body. WONDERFUL QUALITY AND DETAIL. When Asked by Christies about his collection Romano commented, If I had to single out just one object, it might be my antique Chinese ceramic frog cachepots. I love the whimsical and beautiful nature of these, the colour, the shape and the texture of them. A PAIR OF CHINESE EXPORT-STYLE FROG FORM JARDINIERES. LARGE ANTIQUE 19TH CENTURY CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN FROG PLANTER OR FLOWER POT ON FITTED LILY PAD CARVED WOOD STAND. The Green Frog/Toad (a frog is a Chinese symbol of Good Fortune, and a toad symbolises longevity and fertility) measures approximately 11 by 9 by 6 inches 28 x 23 x 15 cm. It weighs 1460 grams. Overall the condition is very good, with no cracks, chips or glaze crazing. Just one tiny sign of use; a very small flake on the base which has been re-attached (please see photographs). Century Chinese Antique Frog is NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH SIMILAR LARGE POTTERY FROGS MADE IN THE 1960S by the French Potter Jean Rogers. Nor mistaken for copies of Jean Rogers frogs made in Portugal in the 1970s. Jean Rogers frogs are signed on the base, are a different size, do not have thousands (4500) of tiny discrete spherical beads attached to the surface but have a far smaller number of dabs of porcelain applied (only about 500) which smooth onto the body and look like hob nails in old boots (Rogers Frogs are often called Hob Nail Frogs), the colours are different, the lower and upper lips join in a point on the Chinese antique only, and finally both the mouth and the feet are somewhat different designs.
