This large vase is decorated in the Doucai style which originated during the Chenghua period and was subsequently adapted through multiple Ming and Qing reigns, including Qianlong’s. Overglazed Doucai colours are in full display, including the Aubergine purple/brown, greens, reds and yellows. The traditional pear-shape (Yuhuchun) is enhanced with lobes, alternating single and double grooves and a wider body. It is less meticulously painted than Yongzheng Doucai ware, possibly as a conscious tribute to the famous initial Chenghua Doucai free-hand style.
