A very large antique Chinese Cizhou jar decorated in a thick lustrous black glaze which pools towards the base, the squat wide body sitting on aa generous base, the short neck with oxidised brown rim. This thick glaze has a slight blue hue to it under light giving a luminous quality to the high sheen. Interesting form from a very good UK collection of blackware. Dating possibly Song Dynasty. Some surface marks and glaze thinning from manufacture. The piece is 23 cm high (approx 9).
